This Bird repeller tape is an iridescent diffraction foil that affects
birds’ vision,
hearing and feeling. By combining holography, wind and light it creates
an „off limits” zone which deters pest birds (pigeon, swallow, sparrow,
starling etc.).
This Bird repeller is a
ribbon of polyester film, that has been holographically printed with a
pattern of interlocking circles resembling the eyes of owls, the natural
enemy of most small birds.
The 3-dimensional UV-light-treated holographic surface reflects the
colors of the spectrum with laser-like intensity. The tape measures 5 cm
width by 2 mm thick and comes in rolls of 30 and 150 meters.
How does it work?
It keeps unwanted
birds (pigeon, swallow, sparrow, starling)
away in several ways:
|
 |
It's a
visual deterrent |
„flashes” as it moves with the wind. Reflecting sunlight, or any light, it
produces constantly changing colors and patterns. This flashing „ripple effect”
is picked up by the birds as an unsettling danger signal.
|
|
 |
It is
a hostile sound environment |
pest birds are „rattled” by the fierce metallic noise the material gives off
when caught by the slightest breeze.
|
|
 |
It is
a physical barrier |
applied along a ledge, fence or other narrow surface the tape prevents access to
birds’ „landing strips”. |
| |
When and how is it used?
For rooflines, fences and other linear applications suspend the bird
repeller tape above roosting surfaces with the specially designed wire
supports provided. (For added effectiveness attach 1,5 m „streamers” to
the main ribbon.) Other applications include: railings, copings, ledges,
gutters, sills, beams and scaffoldings. Also effective in eliminating
„runways”, those places birds land before going on to broader areas such
as roofs, open fields, landfills, parking lots, etc.
For open outdoor areas „Maypole” 6-10 pieces 2,5 m length tapes by tying
them to the top of any upright post.
For farms or gardens this
Bird repeller tape has many applications for protecting crops from bird
damage. Spiral it around free-standing trees from top to bottom. Or
suspend it over vines and around row plantings.
Other applications will keep ducks and geese off of lawns and ponds
where they aren’t wanted, or keep predator birds away from fish farm
ponds.
Possibilities and uses
are limitless. By its using you will harm neither the environment nor
the birds.
Install wherever problem is. Wind and light will do the rest.
Preparation of
application area:
1.
Remove any foilage from above the application area so that twigs,
leaves, etc. will not drop on it.
2.
Remove all bird excreta, dirt, debris, flaking paint, grease, etc. from
application area.
Caution: if bird droppings are unusually heavy, wear a protective face
mask and protective gloves before handling.
Basic installation:
Regardless of the surface
you intend to protect, study the actual area closely for clues to the
optimum deployment pattern of the material. (For example: if you are
able to determine that the pest birds typically approach the infested
area from the same direction, you will know where to begin
installation.)
There are many application method:
|
 |
Linear application: |
Plot the line you wish to
protect and position the support brackets at intervals of 3-4 meters along that
line. Once the brackets are mounted (see Mounting instructions later) unroll the
reel of the Bird repeller tape and thread it through the support brackets along
their entire length. Simply slide the tape through the minute gap at the top of
the bracket. When properly positioned the ribbon should run inside the very top
of the bracket on a horizontal plane parallel to the ground. For maximum
effectiveness, invert (twist to form a spiral) at least once between each pair
of brackets. Always leave enough slack to allow free movement in the breeze. Do
not pull ribbon too tight. Finally, tie off or clamp ends securely.
|
|
 |
The „Maypole”: |
Use a strong pole, fencepost or any other suitable vertical upright as your
support. Gather 12 or more lengths of the tape that are 1/2 to 2/3 of the height
of the support and attach them to the top. This is excellent near shrubbery,
small trees and on boats.
|
|
 |
The „Wrap”: |
For orchards, especially
free standing fruit trees which are particularly vulnerable to bird „attack”,
wrap the tree by spiralling the bird repeller tape around it from bottom to top.
|
|
 |
„Streamers”: |
You can multiply the
effectiveness of Bird repeller tape by attaching cross strips to main „runner”
or attaching to branches to supplement „The Wrap”. Cut lengths of 60-90
centimeters and simply tie them on at regular intervals. |
| |
Bracket mounting:
In the base of each
bracket is a 60 mm hole. Whatever mounting hardware is used, make sure
that the diameter of its head exceeds 60 mms.
Masonry (stone, concrete,
terra cotta, brick, etc.):
Drill about 75 mms holes
at least 2,5 cm deep. Insert nylon anchors. Position bracket base over
the hole and drive spiral stainless steel nails flush with hammer.
Wood:
Use any sturdy nails or
wood screws and drive them flush with a hammer or screwdriver.
Sheet metal:
Create small holes with a
drill punch or nail, then mount with sheet metal screws and
screwdriver.
Signs, cables, railings,
piping or tubing:
With plastic strap ties
(and a wire tightening tool) simlpy „warp” the base to the mounting
surface, then tighten down with the twisting (tying) tool.
Any mounting surface
requiring adhesive:
Apply the adhesive to
both the bottom of each bracket and the mounting surface. Slide surfaces
together and allow 24 hours for setting.
Ground (soil):
Use any long nail, rivet,
rod or dowel to act as an anchoring stake and drive it into the ground
with a hammer or mallet.
Typical applications:
Ground row crops:
Secure
the bird repeller tape from stakes, posts or
irrigation risers every 3-4 meters down the row. Place the tape just
above the crop being protected. Place on every row. On high densitiy
large and bushy crops such as blueberries, grapes, etc., where overhead
placement is difficult, run ribbon strips down both sides of each row
and tie it to outer upper branches. On smaller plantings suspend the
tape above the entire area on about 2 m tall poles spaced to from 2-3
meters wide rows.
Specific crops:
Strawberries: Place two
stakes at ends of bed about 60 cm above ground level.
Raspberries: Fasten to existing „training” stakes.
Free standing fruit trees: use the „wrap”.
Parking lots:
Similar row type coverage
as used for open agricultural crop land – with the exception that ribbon
can also utilize light stanchions or other existing poles for
attachment.
Marine applications
(against seagulls, etc.):
Yachts: Secure ribbon to
forestay approximately 1 meter above deck. Suspend line taut to shrouds
and backstay.
Power craft: Secure at any convenient locations.
Ponds and lawns (protect
from ducks, geese, etc.):
Run ribbon 1-2 meters
above ground as is convenient tied to stakes or other supports. Steamers
are effective in this application.
